Postgraduate Courses in Theology

Our taught MA,  in partnership with Trinity College Bristol and validated by Durham University is offered on a full or part-time basis.

MA in Christian Theology, Ministry and Mission (1 year full-time, 2-4 years part-time)

Our MA Course is an ideal next step for those who have already studied Theology at undergraduate level. It is also a good preparation for those who wish to undertake a research degree.

All students follow the core unit Research and Reflection: Resources and Methods and can then can choose from a variety of other units in order to develop their area of interest.

Typical units cover the following subjects:
Church as a Prophetic Community
Mission in a Global Context
Revivals and Revivalism
Interpreting the Psalms
Issues in Moral and Pastoral Theology
Hermeneutics
Galatians and 1 Corinthians
Mission and Environment
Science and Faith

The dissertation serves as the culmination of the student’s progress through the degree programme. The programme is designed to provide a solid background in theology for students planning to go on to do research as well as to being of interest to people who wish to devote a year to studying in depth for vocational purposes.

To enable students to complete the MA degree while living at a distance from Bristol, a number of the MA modules are taught in block weeks in which there is concentrated teaching and reading over several days.

The view of a recent student
"I have enjoyed the course greatly and would recommend it to anyone who like me wants to further their biblical studies skills and understanding. There is a good range of modules from biblical languages to more practical church and mission based subjects and the facilities are good. The lecturers and staff have been friendly and helpful throughout my time here. Although I still have my dissertation to research and write, I already miss some of the class discussions now that lectures have finished."

Research Degrees
Our MPhil (one year full-time, two years part-time), MLitt (two years full-time, four years part-time, and PhD (three years full-time, six years  part-time) courses are validated by Bristol University and give you the opportunity for sustained and focussed research, supervised by a member of the Baptist or Trinity faculty.
